Domestic Violence Survival Tips – Domestic Violence, also termed as “Domestic Abuse” is defined as a behavioural pattern in a relationship that is used to gain or maintain control and power over a partner – be it men, women or children. Abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological or threats of actions that scare another person. Be it sexual abuse of women, physical abuse, child abuse or marital rape – all come under Domestic Violence.
This includes any behaviors that frightens, intimidates, terrorizes, manipulates, hurts, humiliates, blames, injures, or wounds another person. Domestic violence happens to people of any age, sexual orientation, religion, race or gender. It can occur amongst couples who are married, living together or dating. Victims of domestic violence may also be a child or other relative, or another household member.
